SDG 7 is one of only six SDGs that lack specific gender indicators, limiting the integration of gender considerations into effective policy-making at both global and local — an essential factor for ensuring an inclusive energy transition to 2030 and beyond. Without accelerated progress, research indicates that by 2030, 341 million women and girls will still lack electricity, and the absence of clean cooking solutions will continue to exacerbate gender disparities and entrench poverty. With just six years remaining to achieve the Agenda 2030 targets, there is an urgent need to develop methodologies and strengthen national capacities to incorporate gender indicators in the energy sector.

This event will convene diverse perspectives from member states, civil society, women-led organizations, UN agencies, and SDG7 custodians to examine the impact of missing gender indicators, the role of gender data in shaping inclusive energy policies, and strategies for building political support and partnerships for a sustainable energy agenda beyond 2030.
